Amazing black currant crumbles with apples. Serve hot with ice cream or at room temperature with vanilla sauce or custard; this is the perfect summer dessert.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius/ 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Crumble:
Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and oats in a large bowl. Add the very cold, cubed butter. Mix with the hands to obtain crumbles.
Refrigerate the topping while you prepare the rest of the dish.
Filling:
Prepare filling: Rinse and drythe berries. Pat dry with kitchen towels and remove the stems. Place in a large baking dish (Note 2). Peel, core, and cut the apples into small cubes. Add to the berries. Add honey (or sugar) and lemon juice. Stir gently to combine.
Cover the filling with the crumbles.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.
Let rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
If you don’t have them, replace them with other berries or with more apples. I use a large ceramic baking dish with a diameter of 28 cm/ 11 inches. A little more or less is fine.
