    4-6 bread rolls
  • Filling mixture: Grate the cheese, chop the ham, and pepper into small cubes. Place them all in a bowl and add the sour cream. Add some sweet paprika powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
1 cup cheese+ 3½ oz cooked ham + 1 small red bell pepper + ½ cup sour cream + ½ teaspoon sweet paprika powder + fine sea salt and black pepper
  • Stuff bread rolls: Spread the filling mixture generously on the halved bread rolls.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until the bread is crispy and the cheese mixture is golden and melted.

Notes

  1. Bread: The best are day-old bread rolls. However, fresh or frozen and slightly thawed will also do. If frozen, let them defrost only enough for you to be able to split them.
  2. Cheese: You can use any other good-melting cheese you like.
  3. Ham: You can also use chopped bacon, lean bacon cubes, or pancetta cubes.
  4. Substitutes for sour cream: Cream cheese, creme fraiche, or smetana.
  5. Spices: Add some oregano or Italian herbs if you like.
