Making air fryer carrots is fast, easy, and truly delicious. Make them sweet or savory, and serve them with just about anything.
Sweet or savory air fryer carrots โ I really could not say which version I like best. I make simple roasted carrots very often, but ever since discovering these air-fried versions, I gave up heating up my oven just to make carrots.
What do you need?
Sweet carrots:
- Honey
- Unsalted butter
- Cinnamon
Variations:
- Use 1 ยฝ tablespoons brown sugar or 2 tablespoons maple syrup instead of honey.
- Add some grated garlic or a little garlic powder.
Savory carrots:
- Olive oil
- Sweet paprika (hot or smoked would be great as well)
- Garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
- Some fresh parsley
Variations:
- Add cayenne pepper or red chili flakes for a really spicy side dish.
- Add dried herbs like oregano, rosemary or thyme.
How to make air fried carrots?
All air fryer recipes are incredibly simple and this one is no exception.
- Prepare the vegetables. Peel them and cut them at an angle or into even sticks. Place them in a bowl. Separate bowls, of course, if you are making both versions.
- Add the butter/olive oil and spices. Mix well to coat.
- Preheat the air fryer, if necessary. Some don't need this step, mine does. The preheating step is so-to-say integrated, I press a button and the fryer preheats to 190 degrees Celsius/ 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 minutes.
- Place in in the basket.
- Cook for 8 minutes.
- Toss well and cook for further 6-7 minutes until they are done to your liking.
- If your slices are larger, they might need a few minutes more. Just check, they should be fork-tender.
- Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
Tips
- You can use regular, baby (no need to chop), or rainbow carrots (really pretty).
- Cut them evenly so that they are all cooked at the same time.
- The exact cooking time depends on the size (thickness) of the carrots. If they are larger, it might take up to 20 minutes.
- Also, the cooking time depends on how many carrots you have in the basket if you have more it might take longer. If you have less, check sooner.
Can you reheat them?
- Air-fried carrots are best served immediately, but if you have leftovers, you can reheat them.
- Place them in the basket and reheat for about 1 minute.
How to serve?
They make a wonderful side dish for just about anything. Try them with Balsamic Beef, Whole Roasted Chicken, Baked Lamb Chops, or Pork Chops and Potatoes.
Leftovers are great stuffed in sandwiches, tortillas or pita bread. Really, absolutely delicious!
