Recipe ingredients
Chances are, you might already have some of these herbs and spices in your kitchen! I like to keep them stocked for easy access whenever I need them.
- Two tablespoons of each: Brown sugar and garlic powder.
- One tablespoon of each: Smoked paprika, sweet paprika, cumin, fine sea salt, or kosher salt.
- Half a tablespoon of each: Onion powder and black pepper.
- Two teaspoons of oregano.
- A quarter of a teaspoon each: Allspice and cayenne pepper.
Tips:
- I use smoked paprika that’s sweet and not hot. If using hot, do use less, or the country-style rib rub might be too spicy.
- Cayenne pepper should also be used to taste. Our seasoning mixture is mildly spicy; if you want it hotter, you can add more cayenne pepper to taste.
- Substitute cayenne pepper with red chili flakes or red pepper flakes (to taste) if you like.
How to make a dry rub for country-style pork ribs?
- Gather all the spices and measure them in a medium bowl.
- Whisk or stir to combine them thoroughly, ensuring there are no clumps or pockets of individual spices.
- Transfer to an airtight container.
Recipe FAQ
The country-style ribs dry rub recipe makes about ¾ cup/ 3.5 oz/ 100 g of seasoning.
You will need about ⅓ of it for rubbing 2 lbs/ 1 kg of country-style pork ribs.
When stored properly in a sealed container, it can last even for one year. However, for the best flavor, I recommend using it within 4 to 6 months.
Over time, the potency of the spices may diminish, and the flavors might weaken. Check periodically the aroma and taste of the dry rub to ensure it is still flavorful and hasn't gone stale.
Glass jars: Mason jars or other glass jars with tight-fitting lids. They are non-reactive, do not absorb odors, and provide good protection against moisture and air.
Resealable plastic bags: Squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing to maintain freshness.
Small food containers with lids: Choose some that are appropriately sized to accommodate the amount of dry rub you have.
