This soar throat-soothing turmeric tea with ginger, lemon, and black pepper is healing, warming, comforting, and full of benefits.

    Turmeric Tea

Incredible golden turmeric tea made with fresh turmeric, ginger, black pepper, honey and lemon and so soothing for my sore throat.

You definitely have to try this tea! You will love its aroma, the sweet and lemony taste, and that surprising peppery kick. Not to mention that beautiful orange color.

    ๐Ÿ“‹Recipe ingredients

labeled ingredients for making turmeric tea with ginger, cinnamon, lemon, pepper, and honey.
    • Turmeric: It contains curcumin, which is a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. I also use fresh turmeric to make this delicious Spicy Turkey Meatball Curry.
    • Ginger: Ginger is also a strong antioxidant and it is anti-inflammatory.
    • Black pepper: The curcumin in turmeric is so good for us, but it is rather poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. To help with that process, you should always add some black pepper to your turmeric drinks or dishes. Black pepper enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2000%.
    • Other ingredients: Honey (also great for soar throat), lemon, and cinnamon.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

two glasses of turmeric tea and half a lemon.

๐ŸตHow to replace fresh turmeric with dried?

    • Turmeric is a ginger-like rhizome. It is bright orange and stains everything; you might think about wearing gloves when preparing fresh turmeric.
    • You might find it in some supermarkets, but it is not that easy to find. At least it's not as easy as it is to find ground turmeric.
    • When replacing fresh turmeric with ground turmeric, you should use about a third of the needed amount of fresh turmeric.
    • So, for this turmeric tea for soar throat recipe, you will need a piece of fresh turmeric about as long and thick as your little finger. I replace that with about ยพ teaspoon ground turmeric.

    ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸณHow to make turmeric tea?

boiling water in a small pot.

Step #1: Boil water in a small pot.

sliced fresh turmeric and ginger on a piece of parchment paper.

Step #2: Slice turmeric and ginger.

    • Step #3: Add cinnamon and pepper and simmer for 4-5 minutes.
    • Step #4: Strain the tea. Add honey and lemon juice.

    ๐Ÿ”ŠExpert Tips

The recipe makes 1 large mug of tea, but feel free to make as much as you want. I usually make about 3-4 cups and keep the tea in the Thermos bottle.

The ginger turmeric tea will be very dark orange at first, but once you add just a little lemon juice, the tea will brighten up and look like liquid gold!

I am getting a sore throat. I definitely will try this right now. I am all about healing my body naturally. I cannot take any sort of cough or cold suppressant due to asthma

Yes, I know that, I have mentioned it in my Turmeric Paste for Golden Milk post. However, I was not aiming for more than a nice hot tea to calm my sore throat when I've made this recipe, I didn't claim anything else in the post. You could add some coconut oil in the tea if you like to boost its effectiveness or use the turmeric paste mentioned before and stir that into hot water.

I am absolutely loving these tumeric recipes! This is definitely the cure for the common cold. I "almost" want to get a cold so I can see how this works. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy it and say healthy. ๐Ÿ™‚
