Sweet yet healthy, filling yet light – this peach blueberry smoothie is just what I need for breakfast these days.

I love peaches and I try to make the most of the season. Not only to eat them as they are but to use them for smoothies, compote, or cakes. I can them, I make jams and even use them to make salads or other savory dishes.

And then the blueberries, my favorite berries actually. They are not as seasonal as peaches, I pick a lot every summer and I freeze them, so I am sure to have some at any time.

What do you need for the smoothie?

    Peaches:

    • I always use fresh peaches. I know that you can buy frozen pieces in some parts of the world, but I've never seen them in Germany. And it never occurred to me to freeze some myself. Maybe I should...
    • If you can get frozen ones, you can definitely use them to make this drink.
    • Nectarines can be used instead.

    Blueberries:

    • Fresh or frozen.

    Oatmeal:

    • It's necessary to make this peach blueberry smoothie filling, otherwise, if you drink it for breakfast, you might get hungry again before lunchtime. It makes the drink thick and comforting.
    • Oats are very nutritious, they lower blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.

    Milk:

    • Either regular milk or nut milk.
    • I use almond or coconut milk (from a box, not a can) most of the time.
    • But soy milk, oat milk, rice milk are all fine.

    Sweetener:

    • The healthiest way of sweetening this drink is by adding a very ripe banana (or two) to the mixture. In this case, increase the milk amount to have a pourable drink again.
    • Otherwise, honey, maple syrup, a little stevia or xylitol are all OK. Use according to taste.

    What could you add?

    • Greek yogurt, but then the smoothie will not be vegan anymore. It tastes delicious though! Use less milk in this case, enough to make the smoothie drinkable.
    • Chia seeds or flax seeds instead of oats, about 1 tablespoon per serving.
    • Vanilla extract
    • Ice cubes
